I often get off the train early, & walk the rest of the way home. Smith & 9th is just too much of a temptation. Why get from A to B with logic? When I commuted to Queens, I'd often leave the house early, so I could break up the ride along the route. East Broadway, 42nd, Roosevelt Island - a draught of coffee and morning skies and the city awakening, fresh with promise - and back underground to Jamaica.

So interesting that this morning, after reading Forgotten New York's piece on the Clay Retort and Fire Brick Works on Richards and Van Dyke Street in Red Hook, I decided to Google Map tour the area. As part of my journey I like to see what subway stations are around, and lo and behold it turns out to be the Smith-9th Streets, so I read up on it, and the fairly recent renovation, at The Subway Nut. Then I open your blog and voila, here we are at Smith-9th Streets with its magnificent views. Life just seems so premeditated sometimes.
Yes, Smith & 9th has the best views around. Thanks for your comments!
