The Eagle Provisions closing is just a few weeks off, and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to look in through the windows at the rapidly emptying store. It's too sad. And now something I'd feared - word that the Eagle buildings themselves may be disappearing too. According to a
Brownstoner tipster, 626-30 Fifth, which recently sold for $7.5 million, will be the site of a 26-28 unit apartment building, with six parking spots. Brownstoner references
an Eagle Paper article identifying the developer as George Malafis.
A separate Eagle article identifies another Milafis, Nicholas (George's son) as being involved in the purchase of property on the same block - the Aaron's parking lot at 614-18 Fifth, where construction has recently begun. Nicholas Milafis and Ioannis Glyptis purchased the site for $4.25 million and a seven-storey apartment building is planned. All but one of many LLCs under which both properties were purchased share the same address: 148 22nd Street, pictured in all its glory below, at left.
The Malafis family appear to be invested in a number of property holdings & developments in the Slope/Greenwood area.
In 2012, Nicholas Milafis and Ionnis Glyptis took over a stalled Isaac Katan development at 683 Fourth Avenue, under two LLCs with a 285 15th Street address.

The pair also developed a 26 unit apartment at 433 Third Avenue. Milafis Senior is listed as the president of GNM Management, with a business address of 285 15th, an apartment building at the corner of 15th & Sixth. Other properties connected to the family include buildings on Seventh Avenue and 11th Street.
Note: When I first wrote this post I mis-identified the building 630 Fifth (below) as having originally been the Lyric Hall theater, which was was actually located at 630
Fourth Avenue, but a sharp-eyed reader corrected my error. Thank you!

I think Lyric Hall was at 630 Fourth Ave, actually.
