It was refreshing to spend a week in a place where bus-stops come in all shapes & sizes, and hand-painted signs and small businesses are still evident. Yes, the main (only) town, Cruz Bay, is buzzing with tourists & boutique baubles, but you can still sit in Cap's Place - a lively, ramshackle bar tourists generally avoid- and watch the police roll up to escort a staggering drinker home (a friendly enough, front seat ride), & a man in his thirties, sitting with a beer at an open window, constructing a tiny paper kite attached to a spool of thread.
